The problem
Turning a trip into wall art usually means hiring a designer or fighting a generic template tool. TravelCanvas needed a self-serve editor where anyone could upload vacation photos, mark the route they traveled, and get a minimalist, print-ready poster — with the design work automated, a live preview they can trust, and a checkout that hands off cleanly to production and delivery.
The approach
I built the custom online editor that powers the product in React and TypeScript, with Convex handling real-time design state and persistence: photo upload with automatic location recognition from image metadata, route and destination layout over map-based designs, and style, color, and format controls (A4 up to 50×70 cm) — all rendered in a live preview that matches the final print. The editor hands finished designs off to a Shopify-backed storefront for checkout, framing options, and fulfilment, keeping the custom app focused on the design experience while commerce stays on proven rails.
The outcome
Customers go from raw vacation photos to an ordered, print-ready poster in minutes without a designer in the loop. More than 10,000 posters have been created, with a 4.5-star customer rating and production turnaround of 1–2 working days — and the editor-plus-Shopify architecture lets new formats and styles ship as configuration rather than rework.
